RIP Nokia

It happened. It appears that Nokia has finally extinguished itself with plans to be rebranded by new owners as the Microsoft Lumia.

While the brand Nokia will no longer exist the company will continue under new owners Microsoft. However, is this enough to bring back the struggling brand that was dominated and defeated by the onset of smartphones?

What do you think, could Nokia have been brought back via a digital marketing campaign? Think of the amount of times you’ve seen blogs or YouTube videos or meme’s dedicated to Nokia and their indestructible phones.

Could they have leveraged this? Or is it better to be rebranded under Microsoft?

Gone but not forgotten.

  1. I’m sad to hear this news! I think Nokia could definitely have created a digital marketing campaign and re-designed it’s products to compete with other brands. The indestructible and reliable design could have been a competitive advantage, particularly recently when apple has been criticised for the design of the iPhone 6. They should have capitalised on the digital media channels and technology available to them, and maybe the brand could have stayed on the market!

    1. Yeah I think it could have been a good campaign, it would have been shared a fair bit around social media if they’d done it the right way. They could have playfully teased at the durability of the iPhone 6, that sort of thing always gets attention.

  2. Agreed. Nokia could have survived if they took the right approach in digital marketing as they have build such positive brand image in many of ot minds. The only thing that was lacking was that they failed to stand out among the cluttered ads of latest smart phone brands. Such waste that there is no longer a brand called Nokia, and I personally feel that being under Microsoft wouldn’t benefit them much either .
